Passed :)

This week I got a nice letter through the door. This is what it said:

I was pleased and surprised. I knew before I opened the envelope what it was and got a sudden feeling that I had failed. Not so 🙂

They also sent the exam paper through, here is a pdf copy I made of it. I’ve starred the second page questions I answered. The depressing thing is that looking at the questions I bet I wouldn’t pass if I took the exam right now! I’m ok at cramming things in temporarily but then it all drops out of my head again.  My brain just isn’t big enough to hold all the info in.

Should say a special thank you to the Mid Bucks Beekeepers Association. The study notes they’ve put together for each BBKA module are completely free and amazing. Without them to have a quick look at while sitting on the bus I doubt I’d have passed. They’ve also produced notes for the Basic Assessment. All their study notes can be found under the Categories section on the right hand side of their website. It is amazing how generous beekeepers like them are with their knowledge.

    Congratulations! I was impressed when I looked at the questions–very comprehensive. You must be excited. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks 🙂 When I first looked at past papers back in January I panicked because I could barely answer any of the questions, I had no clue at all over the technical names etc. I actually think I was lucky this year with the questions, they seemed slightly easier than some of the previous years. Having a main question on swarming was nice and straightforward.

    Some of those questions were hard. Do you have to take these classes to be a beekeeper in England?

      No, not at all! Although on my local Association apiary, where I keep my bees, they do like you to pass a practical test called the Basic Assessment. But the written ones I’m just doing for fun.

    Congratulations. I just looked at the exam paper, and similarly, I’m blank. I know I know some of this is stuff, I learned it at Gormanston last year and I did my Level One FIBKA exam. Looks like I’m going to have to do a lot of revision before I go back in July. Congrats and and keep up the blog. I really enjoy reading it!
