    That looks so cold in the shade. Does the sun ever peer through the trees during the winter?

      It does get pretty cold. The trees have actually been cut back a lot recently, but we do need some to hide the bees from potential vandals and thieves. There was one terrible year before I joined when people got in and threw the hives in a nearby river. I would cry for days if that happened to our bees.
